Scottish Training Contracts

First things first, all of our trainees are the people who’ve impressed us in our early career programmes. In fact, we only recruit trainees from our vacation scheme and our internal paralegals. If you do well there, you could join us on a training contract in our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices.

Reimagine your future

As a trainee here, you’ll have the opportunity to work with our household-name clients, and as well as exceptional training across all of your seats, we’ll support your development in a number of ways. If you have ambition, we’ll help you harness it and use it to create a career without boundaries.

Due to sponsorship salary threshold, if you will require sponsorship to complete a Training Contract, please apply to the London Vacation Scheme, as the Scottish Trainee salary does not meet the sponsorship threshold.

Where you could work

Our Scottish offices have a strong litigation focus. That means, regardless of where you choose to apply, you're guaranteed to have first-hand access to our leading litigation teams.

Edinburgh

Our Edinburgh office focuses mainly on the insurance sector. Our services include dispute resolution, professional liability, healthcare and employment. The heart of our practice in Edinburgh is defender personal injury claims. We represent insurance clients and public authorities in all aspects of employers’ liability, public liability and motor claims. We provide proactive advice and dispute resolution experience for everything from low-cost settlements to periodic payments. We also have a number of dual qualified fee earners and solicitor advocates, appearing in courts across Scotland and on appeal to the Supreme Court.

Glasgow

Our Glasgow office provides services to insurers, public authorities and emergency services, advising on employer’s public and motor liability claims, plus a range of employment, health & safety and regulatory issues. We handle damages claims ranging from low velocity impact road traffic accidents to catastrophic claims, and from occupational disease to fatalities. We regularly handle issues of fraud and credit hire and our personal injury lawyers (as accredited by the Law Society of Scotland) and Solicitor Advocates have a wealth of experience addressing complex cases.

Let's take it step by step

Our strengths-based recruitment process is based on fairness and equity. It’s designed to help us identify what motivates you to work at a city law firm, over your learnt experiences, and helps you show us the most authentic version of yourself. Here’s how it works:

Applications open

For all programmes, you’ll need to make your application online via our online application system. At this stage you’ll just need to complete your basic personal information. No lengthy written tasks for you to complete here.

Digital simulation

Following your online application, you will be invited to complete our digital simulation. It’s an assessment you can complete in your own time and space. It constraints a variety of questions with responses being a mix between written and video. They’re designed to present you with some of the challenges you can expect to face at Clyde & Co. Some questions will try to understand your motivations behind your application. It’s about as realistic as it gets. For more advice and tips on how to approach this stage, visit the learning hub. We then invite eligible candidates, who performed best in the digital simulation, to the final stage – our assessment centre.

Assessment

This is the final stage of the process. Here, we are assessing candidates based on the strengths that will deliver success in a role. As part of the assessment, you will take part in a short written exercise and a strengths-based interview.

Offer

Our favourite part – the offer. We’ll call you to let you know if you’ve been successful, if you’re not, we’ll offer you some feedback for your development.
