Since joining IT I have been on a number of different courses that expanded my technical knowledge together with the specific business lines of the firm.
I originally joined Simpson & Marwick working as a P.A. to Richard Loudon, Property Partner and I did this for a number of years before having my daughter. When I came back from maternity leave I worked part-time as a secretary within the team. With my IT skills and Estate Agency and Conveyancing knowledge I was asked to get involved with the deployment of a new case management system within the department which involved me attending the project meetings, making textual development changes to documents, preparing user guides, testing of the new system, training the teams and then supporting them after go live.
I was then offered a permanent position within the IT Department and I saw this as a great opportunity to grow and challenge myself. I now work with the Edinburgh service desk supporting the case management system, carrying out new start inductions, training on the case management and other business applications. Since joining IT I have been on a number of different courses that expanded my technical knowledge together with the specific business lines of the firm.
Working on the service desk means that there is always variety and every day is different and I get the opportunity to work with a varied group of people. It means that I am always learning and it also enables me to use my skills and knowledge as well as push myself in different areas of the business.
One of the biggest projects I have been involved with was helping the Clyde & Co Scotland team with the deployment of the finance, time recording and file opening systems into the Scottish business. I worked extensively on the business processes and integrations concerned with time recording and matter opening to ensure that the processes would work. I worked closely with the finance systems team to ensure that all requirements were picked up and that any workarounds needed were understood and documented. Working on this project allowed me to work closely with a number of different teams in Edinburgh and London to ensure this project was a success.
The project was at times challenging and pushed me out of my comfort zone but we all worked together as a team and supported each other to ensure the deployment was a smooth transition for the business.
