Dr Henning Schaloske

I studied at the universities of Muenster and Berlin (FU), completed my legal education and trainee work at the Dusseldorf courts and stages with Allianz and a German insurance boutique firm, and was admitted to practise law in Germany. After starting my career with a leading European full service firm, I opened the German presence for Clyde & Co with a team of lawyers in September 2016.
Clyde & Co is the “go to” firm for insurance and reinsurance, with an unrivalled international presence, its strategic client focus and last but not least a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment made up of fantastic colleagues from all over the world.

My goal is to establish Clyde & Co as the premium firm for, in particular, insurance and reinsurance advice in Germany - similar to the firm’s presence in many other jurisdictions. My legal practice focusses on complex claims work including D&O, product liability, M&A, cyber and reinsurance.

To me, there is truly no other firm with a similar market standing and reputation: Clyde & Co is the “go to” firm for insurance and reinsurance, with an unrivalled international presence, its strategic client focus and last but not least a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment made up of fantastic colleagues from all over the world.

What do I enjoy most about working at Clyde & Co? It all comes together: great people with unparalleled market expertise, a dynamic environment and fascinating and challenging instructions from many of the finest clients from the German, European and global insurance markets.

A good example for the work we do is a recent instruction involving a multi-million product liability loss where liability is governed by two European jurisdictions, coverage by German law and the dispute handling subject to an ICC arbitration clause with the seat of arbitration in London. Like this case, many of our instructions bring together challenging legal issues, complex underlying facts and cross-border work. I truly believe that there is hardly another legal practice which is so multi-faceted and international as our insurance and reinsurance practice!

I am very grateful to be working with people who are not only excellent lawyers and colleagues but with whom I actually enjoy spending my time with. We have a fantastic team spirit in our German office and are involved in lots of activities away from the desk. These include sports activities like our running group, cultural activities or our office parties including, of course, the carnival festivities for which Dusseldorf (which reportedly has the longest bar in the world) is well known for.
