Jemma Richardson

I attended the University of Edinburgh from 2004 to 2009 and also studied law for a year in Paris on the ERASMUS program. I decided I wanted to be a lawyer a number of years before leaving school and took part in the University’s “Pathways to the Professions” scheme.
In 2016 I was named “Rising Star of the Year” at the Scott & Co Scottish Legal Awards. This was a highlight of my career to date and I was honoured that the firm supported my application.

I approached Simpson & Marwick (now part of Clyde & Co) following my completion of the Diploma in Legal Practice in 2009. It was a difficult time to find a traineeship in Scotland and I initially worked in a Paralegal type role before being offered a traineeship within a couple of months of starting – I have now worked with the firm for nearly 8 years!

My specialism is in residential property. The firm have always been very supportive of my career progression and I was promoted to a position equivalent to Senior Associate at 3 years PQE.

I have always enjoyed working as part of an award-winning team of solicitors. It is a very open forum where we can share knowledge and information. I have therefore been able to learn quickly from experts within my field.

I enjoy the commercial element of my job. I deal with day-to-day legal work but also am actively involved in the development of marketing strategies and seeking out business development opportunities.

Throughout my time with the firm, I have always felt supported in my personal development and encouraged to take any steps I have identified to improve the service we provide to clients or internal practices and procedures.
