Training Contract: Hong Kong

Most of our trainees are people who have impressed us on our vacation schemes or through internal recruitment from our paralegal population.

Programme overview

Most people on our training contract come directly from a successful vacation scheme. As a trainee here, you’ll be a natural self-starter with a passion for curricular and non-curricular activities. Ideally, you will need to speak fluent English and Mandarin or Cantonese.

Our Hong Kong office is at the heart of one of the busiest parts of Asia which means, for trainees, greater responsibility earlier. Our close cooperation with Shanghai and the global network means overseas secondments are a real possibility.

Eligibility

We prefer applicants with at least a 2:1 degree or equivalent and they should be fluent in English and preferably Cantonese and/or Mandarin.

We look for candidates who want to be part of a team, show enthusiasm and are not afraid of a challenge.

Candidates who have the ability to analyse a problem, develop focused solutions and communicate clearly.

We look at academic achievements but also consider personal qualities and extra-curricular activities to be extremely important.

Our offer of a training contract is conditional upon successful completion at the first attempt of the PCLL course in Hong Kong.

Sponsorship is provided for the PCLL course for those candidates who obtain a training contract with us.

Let's take it step by step

Our strengths-based recruitment process is based on fairness and equity. It’s designed to help us identify what motivates you to work at a city law firm, over your learnt experiences, and helps you show us the most authentic version of yourself. Here’s how it works for this programme:

Completed Summer Vacation Scheme

Most of our training contract cohort will access the programme via the vacation scheme. You will have been told of your eligibility to apply before completing the vacation scheme.

Group exercise

During this exercise, you work together in a team while being observed by assessors. The assessors take notes and score each candidate based on their individual contributions and how you collaborate with others in exercise.

Partner interview

This is a critical step in the selection process. As the final stage, it involves a detailed discussion with the panel. During this interview, the focus is on assessing both technical and motivational fit for the role, team and firm. Partners delve into the candidate's expertise, attitudes and body language to make an informed decision. It's essential to prepare thoroughly for this interview to demonstrate your qualifications and alignment with the organization's values and goals.

2027 Training Contract offer

Once you have completed the partner interview, we'll let you know the outcome as soon as possible. If you have been unsuccessful, we’ll provide feedback.
