The specialism explained

Our programme will run from our Bristol office in our IFPD practice area.

As an IFPD lawyer, you’ll help defend claims against the full range of non-medical professionals. You’ll advise traditional professions, for example, accountants and surveyors, and the non-traditional or emerging professions, such as estate agents and IT consultants.

You’ll work closely with and be supported by qualified solicitors from day one. There is no limit to your career path, with routes to partner level. You’ll also have opportunities to spend time abroad throughout your career on multinational cases.

As an interested candidate, you’re invited to our insight day prior to applying, which will give you an understanding of the recruitment process and introduce you to other trainees and our early careers team.

Once a date is agreed you'll find the details here.

Entry Requirements

We are looking for those who are interested in IFPD and are committed to a career as a solicitor at Clyde & Co as well as the following:

  • You will need to have a law degree or a non-law degree plus the PGDL (Post-Graduate Diploma in Law) by September 2026. You would then start your SQE course, ready to join us as a trainee in September 2027.
  • You will be expected to have AAB at A-level and a 2:1 degree, although we will take into account mitigating circumstances using the Rare contextualised recruitment system.
  • If you are currently studying or have achieved an LPC qualification, please ensure you document this on your application form.

Let's take it step by step

Our strengths-based recruitment process is based on fairness and equity. It’s designed to help us identify what motivates you to work at a city law firm, over your learnt experiences, and helps you show us the most authentic version of yourself. Here’s how it works:

Applications open

For all programmes, you’ll need to make your application online via our online application system. At this stage you’ll just need to complete your basic personal information. No lengthy written tasks for you to complete here.

Online Assessment

If you meet our eligiblity criteria, you will be invited to complete an online assessment. This includes a critical reasoning test, as well as our Clyde & Co strengths-based assessment, which contains a mix of question types including slider and order ranking. It is designed to present you with some of the challenges you can expect to face at Clyde & Co. For more advice and tips on how to approach this stage, visit our learning hub.

Video Interview

If you perform well in our initial online assessment, you will then be invited to complete a pre-recorded video interview. This means that you will be asked questions and will need to record your spoken response via video interview on our assessment platform. Some of these questions will be situational, but others will focus on your motivations for the role and Clyde & Co.

In-person Assessment centre

Our in-person assessment centre is the final stage of the process. Here, we are assessing candidates based on the strengths that will deliver success in a role. As part of the assessment day, you will take part in a preparation task which includes a written and presentation element, plus a group exercise and a strengths-based interview. Please note, top performers may be invited back to the office following the assessment centre for a paid 2-day work placement to help make the final decision and provide candidates with more exposure to the team.

Offer

Our favourite part – the offer. We’ll notify you by phone if you’re successful, if you’re not, we’ll offer you some feedback for development. Don't worry, you will hear from us either way!

Training with us

The route to qualification in this role will be the SQE (Solicitors Qualifying Examination). The SQE provides a real opportunity for us to reimagine and reframe how training and development is delivered for our early careers populations and for us to provide more innovative and tailored training programmes to suit our business.
