Our summer associate program closely mirrors the experience of being a first year associate at Clyde & Co. Throughout the summer, you’ll have the opportunity to work on meaningful work assignments, participate in training and development programs and observe the law in practice.
As a summer associate, you will work with our attorneys on a variety of substantive projects that involve skills such as legal research, analysis and drafting for ongoing client matters.
To help you develop the requisite skills needed to become a successful Clyde & Co attorney, we offer training seminars that cover the essentials: time entry and billing, legal research and writing, how to read an insurance policy, negotiations, deposition techniques and more. We also identify opportunities for you to sit in on depositions, attend court hearings and even client meetings.
In addition to developing your legal skills, we seek to expand your knowledge of the firm’s practice areas through our “Partners in Practice” program. We host a multitude of sessions in which our partners and team members provide an overview of their practice and cases. These sessions not only allow each summer associate to gain exposure to location specific practice areas, but they are also a great way to build connections with our lawyers.
Mentorship plays a critical role in fostering your professional and personal development. From day one, you will be assigned a contact attorney who will provide guidance and support to help you thrive at Clyde & Co. Additionally, each office has a work assignment coordinator who will support you in navigating and balancing your workload.
Our goal is to provide you with continuous feedback throughout the summer upon completion of each work assignment. In addition, at the mid-point of the summer, we’ll sit down with you to discuss your summer experience and provide you with observations and input on your achievements and work projects. This is also a time for us to hear from you! We encourage you to share feedback with us so that we can make your summer at Clyde & Co exceptional.
Social activities allow us to get to know one another in a more relaxed setting. Activities vary by office, and the events chosen allow time for conversation, learning and enjoyment. Past events have included baseball games, happy hours and cooking classes. We too encourage our summer associates to get involved in office-specific events. Additionally, we offer opportunities to connect with other summer associates and attorneys across the US.
We recognize creating a positive culture is vital to the success of our business. It is crucial our people feel happy, respected, and able to be their whole selves at work. Having a workforce that brings a variety of backgrounds and experiences will help us harness the power of different perspectives to better innovate, problem solve, and drive change.
Clyde & Co is proud to offer the Summer Associate Scholarship ($15,000), the goal of which is to support students who bring a unique perspective to Clyde & Co based on their life experience, resilience and cultural understanding.
Eligibility:
- Currently enrolled in a J.D. program with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Proven academic and professional record.
- Participation in law journal, moot court, leadership roles, or other extracurricular activities is advantageous.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication skills for working effectively with clients and colleagues.
- An inclusive mindset and openness to diverse perspectives.
- Ability to commit to a minimum of nine weeks with the firm as a summer associate.
