Meet the team – Melissa Gardner, Partner

Melissa Gardner is a Partner based in our Chicago and Phoenix offices. Today, she is sharing her story.

“My name is Melissa Gardner and I'm a Partner in Clyde & Co's Chicago and Phoenix offices and a member of our firm's Trial & Defense practice group. I also serve as national trial counsel for my clients.

I specialized in this practice because I've always been drawn to the art and challenge of trial work, and after trying my first case, I was completely hooked. It takes a unique combination of grit, creative strategy, and courtroom presence to deliver the results our clients deserve—qualities that make this work both challenging and deeply rewarding.

I’m thrilled to be part of Clyde & Co’s national trial practice and to contribute to its tremendous growth across the United States. The momentum behind our firm's emergence as a powerhouse and go-to legal team for trial work is truly exciting, and it’s inspiring to collaborate with such talented and driven colleagues who share that vision.

I am reminded of this incredible collaboration through work on a recent matter in which my team parachuted into an admitted liability traumatic brain injury (TBI) case a few months before trial was set to begin. We navigated complex challenges, helped our client understand the risks they faced, and developed a plan to reduce those risks at trial. The plaintiff alleged a wide range of injuries, including TBI, post-concussive syndrome, PTSD, anxiety, depression, spinal injuries, hormonal deficiencies, and other complications requiring future surgery. He claimed permanent disability, ongoing pain and suffering, and presented a life care plan totaling approximately USD 6.7 million—asking the jury for USD 30 million in damages. After extensive (last-minute) preparation and strategic trial work, we secured a complete defense verdict.

While I continue my practice of delivering outstanding results for clients, I am also a proud mom to two girls—Kennedy and Cameron—who were 4 years and 2 months old, respectively, at the time our family photos shared below were taken this summer. Currently, our weekends are filled with ballet, tap, sports, and all sorts of kid activities. I’m also savoring the last of the newborn snuggles with Cami and watching Kennedy step into her new role as a big sister. Outside of family time, I’m a self-proclaimed foodie who loves exploring new restaurants and culinary experiences with my husband, Jason, and our friends.”
