We work with Not Beyond Redemption to help female prisoners in the UK secure visitation and other family law rights in respect of their children both during and after their prison sentence. This pro bono project focuses on helping to re-establish critical access and relationships between imprisoned mothers and their children through legal advice and assistance. In the UK we also offer a trainee pro bono seat with the charity.
The Schools Consent Project sends lawyers into schools to teach 11-18 year olds about consent. The charity aims to normalise conversations about consent so that young people experience safe, positive interactions free from sexual harm. Our volunteers deliver interactive workshops in secondary schools and football clubs across the country on the legal definition of consent, key sexual offences, ages of consent, bystander intervention, responses to disclosure and options in the event of an assault. To date, our lawyers have educated nearly 500 young people about consent.
We work with Amicus; a fair trials charity, that focuses on ensuring the right to a fair trial is guaranteed within death penalty proceedings. Our volunteers support US defence attorneys with research and other vital casework. In the UK we also offer a trainee pro bono seat with the charity.
Clyde & Co partners with Safe Passage International, a charity that specialises in immigration law and champions the rights of refugees, and other law firms to deliver this project. Those displaced by the war in Ukraine have few reliable sources of information about UK immigration schemes and so our lawyers travel to Warsaw on 2 week placements to help provide refugees with information relating to UK immigration law and advice.
We partner with Refugee Legal to provide support to refugees and asylum seekers in Australia. Our work has included supporting Afghan refugees and asylum seekers with protection visa applications, as well supporting clients in family reunification matters and others seeking Ministerial intervention, where they have been initially refused visas.
We work with Rainbow Railroad to help LGBTQI+ people who face persecution due to their sexual orientation or gender identity reach safety. Our volunteers undertake casework and help draft immigration forms and other mandatory documents to enable clients’ resettlement in Canada.
We encourage all our colleagues to take part in our social impact programme which covers a range of non-legal volunteering and fundraising projects. We partner with registered charities, provide support at food banks, help with fundraising and regularly work with our partner schools to help children improve their reading abilities. It’s about using our wide range of skill sets to make a positive difference.
