Meet Yasmine who just participated in our LIFT programme. Today, she shares her experience.
My PGDL taught me the law, LIFT showed me how lawyers use it.
Last week, I had the privilege of taking part in Clyde & Co’s LIFT programme. As someone who recently completed their law conversion (PGDL), it was the perfect bridge between learning the law and understanding how it's applied.
We worked on a clinical negligence case, the kind of complex, sensitive matter Clyde & Co’s healthcare lawyers advise on in practice. It was eye-opening to see how legal teams navigate issues like causation, liability, rehabilitation, and negotiation, all while keeping the client's journey and outcome at the heart of their work.
This exercise helped me connect the tort law I’ve studied to how lawyers strategically and compassionately guide clients through some of the most difficult times in their lives.
A special thank you to Nicola Perrott our supervisor, for your generosity in guiding our group presentation and sharing insights that showed the depth and impact of your work. Your support made this experience especially valuable.
Whether it was aviation, employment, or corporate, each session highlighted the many paths a legal career can take and how every lawyer contributes to meaningful outcomes.
And a big thank you to Lucy De George & Yusouf Kaj for delivering such a well-organised, welcoming, and insightful week.
I also had the chance to meet and work with an inspiring group of like-minded people, It made the experience all the more meaningful.
What I’m taking away:
- A clearer picture of what it means to think like a lawyer.
- Practical skills from client interaction to legal strategy.
- Greater motivation to pursue a career that blends intellect, empathy, and service.
Feeling grateful and inspired for what lies ahead!
