Pryderi Diebschlag is a Partner in our Hong Kong office. Today, he is sharing his story.
"Growing up in the UK with a German father and American mother, much of my childhood was spent travelling.
I originally wanted to be a pastry chef, but changed my mind after a summer working in a Michelin starred kitchen. I realised that you never see the smiles or appreciation of customers while you’re working and you spend every day on your feet – at least as a solicitor we get chairs!
After studying in the UK, Singapore and Beijing, I started my legal career in London, did a short stint in Abu Dhabi on secondment and eventually moved to Hong Kong in 2015.
I have now lived in Hong Kong for the last 10 years and I joined the firm’s Hong Kong office in 2021. My area of focus is international commercial arbitration. Within that, I cover a wide range of disputes, including those arising from joint ventures, breach of warranty claims, international trade, commodities and the sale of goods. I also run a debt recovery practice.
Working at Clyde & Co means I have a collegiate, global platform to grow a commercial disputes practice. Over the past few years I have worked for some of the world’s largest tech companies, airlines, commodity traders, oil majors, banks and insurers, while at the same time also working for a host of local businesses – ranging from recruiters through to diamond dealers and family offices.
It’s important that senior members of our firm take an active role in driving our culture and demonstrate our values in action. With that in mind, I’m proud to co-chair the Responsible Committee for the Hong Kong office, which now consolidates our environmental, Diversity Equity & Inclusion and charity initiatives. I also co-lead our Graduate Recruitment team and sit on the Parents and Carers Together (PACT) committee."
