In 2016, Clyde & Co established its first German office in Dusseldorf which has since seen a very dynamic development. In February 2019, we have opened a second German office in Hamburg, and in 2021, a third in Munich.

Hello

We've been present in Germany since 2016. In that time, we've opened offices in Dusseldorf, specialising in insurance, Hamburg, a centre of excellence for marine, and Munich, where we focus on disputes. With this broad range of expertise ambitious candidates can enjoy experience on complex and large-scale cases.

Our German Offices

Our teams work across all our offices, primarily in four practice groups: dispute resolution, insurance, corporate & advisory, and energy, marine & natural resources. We are particularly recognised for our advice to companies in the insurance and maritime industries. This includes representing our clients before authorities and courts as well as advising on transactions, drafting contracts, data protection and regulation.

Our Dusseldorf team focuses primarily on (re)insurance work, including claims, product development and non-contentious advice, in particular on financial lines (D&O, E&O, Fidelity, Professional Indemnity), product liability, property as well as cyber, warranty & indemnity and other speciality risks.

The team also acts in the fields of reinsurance and regulatory law and acts in relation to general commercial disputes with a focus on domestic and international litigation and arbitration work.

Our Hamburg team's expertise encompasses shipping, yachting, admiralty and pilotage, as well as marine insurance, trade and energy, and offshore work.

The team also acts in relation to commercial disputes with a focus on domestic and international arbitration work, advising on both German and English law.

Operating at the heart of the market, our lawyers service domestic and international insurance clients. The claims and product teams support clients across all major business lines, including financial lines (D&O, E&O, PI, Crime), casualty, property and CAR/EAR, and have built a reputation as a leading team for emerging risks such as cyber and W&I.

In addition, the team advises insurers, reinsurers and other market participants on all aspects of regulatory and insurance distribution law, run-off solutions, insurance competition law, as well as on other insurance legal and compliance matters.
